Bradford Kaellner is most excited about two things these days… water and food! Okay, perhaps I should be a bit more specific. I'm excited about sustainable water use and food production. That means catching water from the sky and storing it in tanks, ponds, and most importantly, the soil. It also means creating a multi-level food forest, which mimics a natural forest in function while utilizing edible and other useful species. I certainly took the slow, meandering path to get here, stopping off in the valley of mechanical engineering land at UW-Madison for 5 years, and the bubbling brook of energy efficiency consulting in San Francisco for 1 year. Then I discovered permaculture and noticed the raging rapids just around the bend! I completed a master composter training program through StopWaste.org in Oakland, followed by 7 months at the Permaculture Institute of Northern California and 3 months at Quail Springs Learning Oasis. My focus at PINC was natural building, as I helped to erect 3 intern cottages utilizing cob, cordwood, and strawbale building techniques. My time at Quail Springs included a greywater system design, a resident garden design, and a few site specific plant lists (one for Quail Springs and one for a permaculture project in Liberia). In my spare time I do the same thing I do all the other times… research on permaculture topics. Just ask Leslie… and listen closely for the hint of resentment in her voice.
Leslie Doyle has practiced permaculture in Mexico, at the Permaculture Institute of Northern California, and at Quail Springs in Southern California. She has studied Keyline Design with Darren Doherty, participated in a Permaculture Design Course with Geoff Lawton, and lived and worked with Penny Livingston and Warren Brush (at RDI and Quail Springs respectively) among many other wonderful teachers. Leslie has completed garden designs across the United States in Alabama, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and throughout California. She is currently studying to become a Master Herbalist. With an artistic background (having worked not only with drawing and painting, but also silversmithing, blacksmithing, and glassblowing). Leslie is the design artist and webmaster for Edible Garden Design.
